Welcome to LifeLongmontLearning!

llllogonewsmThe LifeLongmontLearning website is dedicated to connecting people in the Longmont community with educational opportunities in their own backyard. Quality education is one of the foundations of a vibrant community, healthy economy and high quality of life for the residents of Longmont.

  • Connects people who want to donate their time and resources to agencies that need help
  • Empowers the community to find and post educational opportunities
  • Is constantly updated with new information
  • Contains educational opportunities for all ages from infancy through later life, including those in the workforce
  • It’s a wiki– style website where community members add and update website information themselves

This site is dedicated to connecting those agencies with those interested in furthering their own or their child's education, whether it be someone who is interested in the Early Care and Education options available to our smallest learners, or those who are re-inventing their own retirement and pursuing a new interest or career. The site is also dedicated to those who are willing to give a little of themselves to the community, either by being a mentor, offering internships or reading to a child and helping to make their connections to agencies who need them seamless. This is a community site, updated by the agencies themselves, with the structure maintained by the City of Longmont staff.

In 2007, an Education Summit, Learn Today, Change Your World Tomorrow, brought together over 600 participants from all over Longmont to discuss how to make lifelong learning a reality. Participants brainstormed on many different ways to involve the community in strengthening the commitment to education in Longmont, including several action steps which would lead us. After the Summit, it seemed clear that there were several educational opportunities that residents wished for, AND that there were also several agencies who already provide these services. Now there needed to be a way to connect the people who want educational opportunities with those who offer them. Additionally, there was an overwhelming number of people willing to volunteer their time or resources to further lifelong learning in Longmont, and needed an easy place to "plug in" to those agencies in need of volunteers.
