Wild Plum Center

The Wild Plum Center is a nonprofit organization that provides comprehensive preschool programming to 3 & 4 year old children. We receive a Federal grant to administer the Head Start program and local funding to provice preschool services to additional children. The Wild Plum Center serves 198 students in 12 half-day preschool classes located in several locations in Longmont. In December 2009, we received Federal Stimulus money to implement an Early Head Start program.

What is Head Start?
Head Start is a Federal program for preschool children from low-income families. Children who attend Head Start participate in a wide variety of educational activities. They also receive healthy meals and snacks and a variety of medical services. Head Start also offers families educational opportunities, referral services and many other activities throughout the year.

What is Early Head Start?
The Early Head Start (EHS) program is for low-income infants, toddlers, pregnant women and their families. EHS programs enhance children's physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development; assist pregnant women to access comprehensive prenatal and postpartum care; support parents' efforts to fulfill their parental roles; and help parents move toward self-sufficiency.
