Home FAQs Transferring Credit into FRCC

Transferring Credit into FRCC

Students who are planning to earn a Front Range certificate or degree, and who have had previous college-level learning experiences (whether through testing, other colleges, or job training) can request an Official Transfer Credit Evaluation to determine what credit transfers into their FRCC course of study. Once transferred, this credit becomes part of the official FRCC record (transcript).

There are several steps in obtaining an Official Transfer Credit Evaluation:

  1. Have an Application for Admission on file at FRCC.
  2. Complete a Transfer Credit Evaluation Request Form - and mail it to the Admissions and Records Office of the FRCC campus you attend.
  3. Contact the issuing institution for a transcript of previous learning, and have it sent directly from the issuing institution to the Admissions and Records Office of the FRCC campus you attend. Transfer Request from Previous School.Note: While an unofficial or hand-carried copy of your transcript can be used to meet with advising for purposes of possible exemptions from assessment requirements, transcripts used for the Official Transfer Credit Evaluation must come to FRCC by mail directly from the issuing institution.
  4. Once you have received your Official Transfer Credit Evaluation (which will be completed once both your Transfer Credit Evaluation Request Form and your transcripts have been received), it is recommended that you see an FRCC academic advisor to discuss how the transferred credit can be applied to your FRCC course of study, and what your remaining degree or certificate requirements are.

Important Transfer Credit Evaluation Information

  • FRCC will accept transfer credit only from post-secondary institutions accredited by one of the six regional accrediting associations.
  • FRCC Transcript Evaluators are responsible for evaluation of transfer credit in light of general transfer policy guidelines. Credits which are accepted for general transfer purposes may not necessarily apply to a specific degree program.
  • FRCC reserves the right to examine all credits to determine obsolescence of content. In the event that coursework is found to be obsolete, the student may be required to update the credit. The college allows students to earn credit by challenging courses through special institutional examinations or the development of a portfolio which documents prior learning. (Contact an Academic Advisor or Transcript Evaluator for additional information.) Refer to Student Guide to Credit for Prior Learning.
  • Transferred grades appear on FRCC internal records and unofficial transcripts, but do not appear on the official transcript and are not calculated into the FRCC grade point average.
  • Credit for which the grade of D was earned is not transferable.
  • Credit for remedial/preparatory non-collegiate level courses is not transferable.
  • All course work is evaluated on the semester hour basis; i.e., 1 quarter hour equals 2/3 semester hour.
  • For Applied Science degrees/certificates, students should contact their faculty advisor and/or instructional department chair for information concerning course substitutions and waivers.
  • When your evaluation is complete, transfer credit will be posted to your online student record, which you can access through your online student account. You will need your PIN. Transfer credit may be viewed if you have previously taken FRCC courses and/or were registered for FRCC classes at the time the evaluation was completed.
  • All postings of transfer credit to students’ academic records are considered final. Students with questions or concerns about their transcript evaluations should contact the Transcript Evaluator who provided the evaluation. If the question or concern cannot be resolved to the student’s satisfaction in that way, the student may formally appeal by following procedures specified in the current FRCC Catalog. The appeal must be submitted within 15 days of the date of the evaluation.
