$30,000 in Classroom and Program Grants Awarded

At a reception on October 28, 2010, the Education Foundation for the St. Vrain Valley awarded 77 grants totaling $30,000 to individual classroom teachers and educational programs throughout the school district.

The awards support a wide range of academic needs including the development of basic literacy skills to more advanced language arts enrichment, hands-on science projects and experimentation, field trips, guest speakers and parent involvement activities.  Thirty-five percent of the grants awarded included some type of technology component including document cameras and projectors, flip cameras, GPS devices, and science probes.  Sixteen (16) elementary schools, 15 middle and high schools, 2 district-wide support program and 3 community organizations shared in the grant funding. Information on the specific grant awarded can be found below.

“It is wonderful to be able to support so many excellent projects and programs that focus directly on the academic needs of our students.  Investing in our teachers and students is particularly important at a time when academic achievement is so vital to an individual’s future success.” says Lois Blackwood, chair of this year’s grant review committee.

Heritage Middle School math teacher Samantha Olsen expressed the feelings of many grant recipients after receiving grant funding for a project supporting enhancing cultural awareness and financial literacy.  She said “Words cannot even begin to express how grateful we all are. International Towne is such an amazing learning opportunity and thanks to your foundation we will be able to send all of our kids without it being a financial burden on their families. What your foundation does is truly going to make a difference for our kids this year.”

Special thanks go to all of the individuals, organizations and businesses in the community that make these grants possible.

A complete listing of the grants funded can be found below as well as on the Education Foundation’s website for more detailed grant information.
