Science and philosophy did not arise in the high civilization of China or Egypt or India, but did so in the Aegean region, including the shores of Asia Minor. What were the images, attitudes, and conditions that brought this development about? We will see how the work of these thinkers continues to shape the quest for understanding today. Some excerpts from “Great Courses” lectures will stimulate a discussion of the emergence of science by way of ancient Greek philosophy. The main material will be provided by John Hitchcock Ph.D.
